Birds

Henslow’s sparrows and hawks can be spotted here. Visitors can also enjoy many other activities at the park. A trip to the preserve is an ideal getaway for nature lovers. There are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy during their visit.
Trails

This preserve’s trails are ideal for families, as they provide the perfect way to explore this natural treasure. Trails here are easy to navigate and make for a great exercise routine. If you prefer to take a stroll instead, there are also some bike paths. This park has everything you need to make your workout a success.
The prairie is large and flat and has few trees for shade. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing and bring plenty of water. If possible, avoid hiking during the hotter hours of the day. In addition, the prairies are relatively flat, so you can often see the edges from anywhere. However, if you don’t feel comfortable hiking in the heat of the day, you should try to find a place with shade to avoid the sun’s rays.
Picnic area
A beautiful 1,829-acre prairie in Naperville, Illinois, is home to the Picnic area at Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserver. The preserve is a regionally significant breeding ground for a number of bird species. The area is also popular with bird watchers and offers several picnic tables and trails. You can rent a shelter for a group or family picnic. There is ample parking throughout the preserve and additional parking is available near the model-aircraft field and along Plainfield-Naperville Road.
In addition to the picnic area, the forest preserve has a 12-acre outdoor museum, Naper Settlement, which is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. This museum is located about two miles north of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve. Nearby Bolingbrook, Illinois, is a southwest suburb of Chicago. The neighborhood and the community of Naperville played a major role in preserving this area and making it available for public use.
Dog area
Dogs are welcome on the expansive walking & biking trails. The expansive natural area includes prairie and meadow habitats. The park is great for families, so bring your dog along for the adventure! We recommend bringing a leash and a bowl of water for your dog. The area is also great for dogs to exercise while you explore the forest. A fenced dog area is available for the safety of your dog.
The off-leash dog area will include a five-acre fenced field, an asphalt parking lot, and a trail that connects to the park’s looped trail. Dogs are allowed in designated areas but owners must carry a valid permit to do so. The off-leash dog area is not open every day, and the park closes at 10:00 am on Thursdays. Those who aren’t comfortable with off-leash dog areas should consult with the Forest Preserve District’s rules before visiting the park.
Model aircraft field
The Model aircraft field at Springbrook Prairie Forest Preservere in Naperville is a great place to get out and enjoy flying a model plane. This area is located just off Plainfield-Naperville Rd between 75th and 87th St. This area has been a fly-in spot for the Masters RC Aero Club for over 30 years. The club has partnered with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County to improve the aircraft field by adding covered benches and a pavilion. The field is also very strict, so flying a model aircraft there is a big deal.
The field is accessible by car or bus. The main parking lots are located on Naper Plainfield south of 75th Street. There are additional parking lots near the model aircraft field. The trail is 5.5 miles long and has additional parking. The Preserve is perfect for families, groups of friends, or anyone interested in flying a model aircraft. The field is also a great place to go kite-flying in the spring.
